MAM TOR, DERBYSHIRE, PEAK DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK, 2023

Mam Tor is a hill within Hope Valley, near Castleton in the High Peak of Derbyshire, England. The name 'Mam Tor' is thought to derive from Old British to mean ‘Mother Hill’. The name could be because frequent landslips on its eastern face which have resulted in a multitude of small ‘daughter’ hills beneath it.
Mam Tor is also referred to as the ‘Shivering Mountain’ because of this propensity for landslips caused by unstable lower levels of shale.
 
The view is from the west side of Mam Tor looking norther-east at the 517m high summit, which forms the start of ‘The Great Ridge’.
